Introduction to Maple Leaf Educational Systems

Our Story

Maple Leaf Educational Systems first opened in Dalian, China in 1995 and was certified by the Ministry of Education, British Columbia (BC), Canada in 1998. Maple Leaf International Schools are now located in more than 20 cities throughout China, enrolling over 43,000 students in more than 100 schools from preschool to high school. More than 7,000 students are registered as Canadian offshore students in the BC Program at our ten high schools and four Foreign Nationals Schools. The BC Program is taught fully in English by teachers holding the British Columbia Teacher’s Certificate of Qualification

Maple Leaf Educational Advantage

MLES teachers offer a unique academic opportunity to our students, allowing them the benefit of studying a Canadian curriculum while living in China. MLES is certified by both the BC and Chinese governments and offers a high quality, externally accredited, international private school education. The MLES Educational Philosophy is based on the belief that through blending elements of the innovative and enquiry-based western educational model with the culturally rich and disciplined traditional Asian educational model, students will be best prepared to meet the challenges of living and working in an internationally diverse society.

Administrators & Teaching Staff

MLES hires qualified teaching professionals. The BC Program at each school is led by an experienced BC certified principal with a staff of Canadian and international teachers who are all certified by the Province of British Columbia. The BC Program Superintendent ensures system-wide quality and consistency at each school. There are currently more than 400 Canadian certified teachers and administrators working in Maple Leaf schools throughout China.

Options within the System

With 14 high schools and 3 Foreign Nationals Schools located in 12 cities throughout China, Maple Leaf International Schools present a world of opportunity. Opportunities to experience a larger school or a smaller school, a major city or a quieter and more rural environment. For teachers who want to experience life in different locations in China we provide opportunities to spend two years in one location and then to move to teach in one of our other locations. With new locations opening in the coming years the options available continue to grow including teaching at our schools in North America, Australia and the Asia Pacific.
